Spectacle flanges (also called spec blinds) combine a solid blind disc and an open ring in one figure-eight shaped plate, connected by a web. Flipping the plate switches between fully blocked and fully open — giving a visually obvious, positive isolation state that a closed valve alone can't guarantee.
