Weld Neck Flange Dimensions and Pipe Bore Matching
A welding neck flange must be selected as part of the complete piping joint, not by nominal diameter alone. Match the applicable dimensional standard (such as ASME B16.5 where specified), flange size, pressure class, material grade and sealing-face type. Confirm that the hub bore and welding-end preparation match the pipe outside diameter, wall thickness or schedule, and the approved welding procedure. An incorrect flange bore, facing or class can prevent a suitable connection even when the nominal size appears to match.
Material, Pressure Class and Facing Selection
Common project enquiries specify carbon steel (CS), SS 304 or SS 316, subject to the application and exact grade. Pressure-temperature ratings depend on the chosen standard, material group and class; a Class 150, 300 or 600 label alone does not establish suitability for all temperatures.
